The custom wedding invitations normally get sent about six to eight weeks before the wedding day. This gives guests enough time to prepare for it and to clear their calendars, prepare travelplans, and have time to devote to finding appropriate attire. If you’re planning a destination wedding, you will want to give more time that that; a couple of months minimum.
The next big concern is when to request the RSVP. Even after you send out the invitations you still have a while to wait for the responses. But even then you need them early enough so you can tell the venue and caterer how many people to expect. The RSVP can be set for two to three weeks before the wedding, which is enough time to get a final head count for your seating chart. You can follow up for anybody who doesn’t reply.
These are just some guidelines to ensure everything goes smoothly. Use your common sense to determine if you need any extra time either sending the invites or receiving answers. Sometimes special circumstances will play a role in your timing.
